General Characteristics

Menahden, also called Pogies in New England or Bunkers in New York and New Jersey, are flat and have soft flesh and a deeply forked tail. They have oily flesh and are bright silver with a small black spot behind their eye. Pogies are a staple of the Lobster industry as bait. They are also a very popular fish to fry in some parts of the world.
